Remote Working: The good, the bad and Gather

Remote Working: The good, the bad and Gather

From some surprising new colleagues to the joys of gardening, our team reveals the best and the worst of working from home.

APRIL 2020

The Gather team are all remote working and still going strong. Here are some of the things we love (and absolutely hate) about working from home.

Simon

Things I like: Not sharing a toilet with Nick.

Things I don't like: The office banter and not being able to pester... I mean cherish Nick.

Najeeb

Good news: I'm growing herbs and vegetables.

Bad news: Until they're grown, my leftover birthday cake is my staple diet.

Lucas

Things I enjoy: Less distractions, constant supply of coffee and food from the other half and not having to get fully dressed.

Things I don't like: Missing the office banter.

Nick

Things I enjoy: Peace and quiet, all of the bandwidth I want, total control of the SONOS, complete control of the temperature, 15 Second trip to work.

Things I don't like: Not seeing other people, Najeeb not doing the washing up.

Matt

Things I enjoy: Less distractions and can actually solve issues in peace!

Things I don't like: Not being able to walk around Bank at lunchtimes.

Jack

One thing I love: Not having to drive through rush hour traffic every morning and evening.

One thing I hate: Having to share the internet connection with my whole family.

Robert

Things I enjoy when working from home: Less distractions, not having to walk to work in the rain and not spending a fortune on lunch.

Things I don't like: No face to face interaction with anyone above the age of 3!! Nice coffee!! Comfy desk chairs!!

Josh

Things I like about working from home: Getting jobs done around the house at lunch. No 'wasted' time spent commuting. Lunch doesn't have to be what ever I can pack and take with me.

Things I don't like about working from home: More difficult to discuss design decisions and no office chat.

Clynt

I have been mostly remote working for the last few years so not a lot of adjustment - Some might say I have been practising "social distancing" for a very long time... Definitely not missing the Tube though.

Emily

Things I like about working from home:  Fewer distractions (usually), no travelling, being able to do the school run, having music on (no music in the Advent office).

Things I don't like about working from home: Fewer social interactions.

Meet our new colleagues

Working outside of our office, we've gained some new, noisy (and sometimes furry) colleagues. As our new remote team members, they've kept us smiling and reminded us to take breaks. Whether that's a walk, enjoying some sun in the garden or a general fuss. Emily's cat definitely won't move until it has had her full attention.

Getting Outside

Whilst working from home, it's important to take a breather and get outside. With the sun shining, our team has been taking advantage of their breaks to finish DIY projects and start planting seeds.
