Remote Working and your Business

Remote Working for your Business

What can you do to protect your employees and business during a pandemic or an international crisis?

As the UK goes into lockdown, companies are facing an unprecedented threat to both their employees and their business. With international media furore and understandable fear in the population, businesses are caught between a rock and a hard place.

On one hand, we absolutely MUST reduce the spread of the infection to bolster our NHS and protect our vulnerable communities. On the other, many businesses simply cannot afford to lose 3 weeks of paid work, even with government assurance. Nor can employees afford to lose their only financial income during a time of such uncertainty.

What a choice to make: Health or livelihood?

Fortunately, many office-based roles don’t have to make this choice. There is another way.

To reduce the spread of the coronavirus, every responsible organisation should actively encourage and facilitate their teams to work remotely.

WHAT IS REMOTE WORKING?

Remote working simply means not working in a traditional office space and it is a major part of modern, flexible working. Office-centric working has been a standard for businesses around the world. However, current advances in cloud technology enables professionals to work flexibly from anywhere.

Without the hassle of a commute or distractions of the office, your employees will discover the perks of working from home: Better work-life balance, ownership of their workload and a healthier lifestyle. Many job seekers now consider remote working to be an attractive employee benefit. The advantages for your business are also surprising.

Most importantly, your business will become modern and also remain flexible during times of crisis. Through remote working, your company will be able to maintain a steady workflow and income. This will protect your business interests and your employees' livelihoods.

HOW CAN I SET UP REMOTE WORKING?

There are multiple approaches to remote working: The right method and tools will be different for the individual company.

In our experience, Cloud software provides an online space for work to be stored and shared efficiently, particularly Office 365. It is an essential part of our remote working, especially when paired with other applications, such as Citrix, Slack and Zoom

Citrix offer a range of solutions, to suit your requirements, that lets your employees securely access applications and content from any permitted device. Whether they are working from a mobile, laptop or desktop, Citrix keeps your data completely secure yet easily accessible for your team.

We use Slack for instant messaging and updating team projects. You can send an update to or share a document immediately with the right person using their intuitive @ systems. With their threads and channels, you can even organise your team into specific conversations or group projects. It's quick, efficient and full of individual personality.

If you need a team meeting whilst remote working, Zoom is an uncomplicated application for video conferencing and live webinars. When you need to speak to external providers, Zoom is quick and effortless to use. All you need to do is send them a link and they can easily join your meeting.

WILL MY TEAM STILL BE ABLE TO WORK TOGETHER EFFECTIVELY?

Absolutely yes. Our Gather team is spread between Somerset and London. There is no loss of communication or time spent on shared projects. We're not just recommending you remote working methods that suit us: We've successfully tried and tested them ourselves.
